Why the Web?

When an affliction happens to you, you either let it defeat you, or you defeat it...
~ Rosalind Russell ~

You can get the best results with any web presence by getting your thoughts and ideas organized. This section is here to help you do just that.
  • Determine what you want to accomplish with your Internet presence.
Make a list, prioritize, and be specific. For example, instead of an accountant saying, "To increase profits", he might say, "To gain new small business clients for accounting software sales and support."
  • Create a profile of your target audience. Again, be specific and prioritize.
    Some things to consider:
    • Who are they? Families, Individuals, Businesses (large or small)
    • Where are they located? City, State, County, Country
    • What is their age range?
    • What is their computer literacy? How will they spend time on the net? What types of online information would benefit them?
  • Based on the answers to the first two questions, determine what information, services, and/or products you think would be most beneficial to visitors to your site. As always, be specific and prioritize.
  • Make an outline of your content, grouping topics where appropriate, and then prioritize.
  • Begin putting your content together within the topics you determined and gather any specific photos you would like to include. It will reduce costs if your content is stored in an electronic format.
  • Decide if there are sections you would like the ability to maintain on your own. Access can be allowed for updating sections without any programming or html knowledge. This is a great option for timely news sections, lists of contacts, and any information that is likely to change frequently. This will increase your initial design costs but will cut down on reoccurring maintenance fees.
  • Would you like an information request form? If so, what items should be included?
  • Include a simple, clear call to action - What do you want visitors to do once they've seen your site? Let them know, be specific.
  • Think about web sites you have seen. Which ones draw you back? What features made your experience easier? What things did you like or dislike?
  • Choose a domain name. It is best if you can use your company name. We will offer suggestions on choosing alternative names if yours is already taken.
  • Additional items to consider:
    • Specials or promotional coupons
    • Pricing information
    • Hours - Are appointments required?
    • Directions - Include a link to an interactive map?
    • References/testimonials
    • Mission/Vision Statement
    • FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
    • Product information
    • Order form
    • News
    • Employment opportunities
    • Multimedia-Video/sound
We will help you step by step through this process and provide many suggestions to help you get the most out of your Internet presence.
